Hot Tub Time Machines and Well-Trained Dragons: Critics Roundup by Mike Krumboltz · March 26, 2010 A hot tub time machine will battle it out with computer-generated dragons at theaters this weekend. One film's a raunchy comedy -- gee, can you guess which one? -- while the other comes from the animation team at DreamWorks. Two very different movies aimed at two very different audiences. What say the critics? Hot Tub Time Machine Not since "Snakes on a Plane" has a movie's title so aptly described its plot. "Hot Tub Time Machine" stars John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, and Clark Duke as four buddies who travel back in time to the '80s via a hot tub with mysterious powers. Ridiculous? Absolutely. Worth seeing? That depends on who you listen to. The Chicago Sun-Time's Roger Ebert gives the "Hot Tub" three stars out of four. Mr. Ebert remarks that the film isn't quite on the same level as "The Hangover," but it occupies "similar turf." Overall, he "wasn't disappointed." Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: March 21, 2010 by Niall Browne

This week: Alice stays in Wonderland, much to the disappointment of Jen and Gerard; Said says yes to Conan; Steve Guttenberg gets over excited when he hears that “old faces” will be returning to Police Academy; Renner, Hoffman and Anderson are looking for anyone with $35 million sitting around to finance The Master; want to read another sentence where I compare a potential film franchise to the Jason Bourne movies? If so check out Andy McNab’s Nick Stone film Echelon, and Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell get their passports stamped for The Tourist Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland remained at the top of the box office after grossing an estimated $30 million over the weekend. The film has now grossed over $260 at the US box office alone. If I had a time machine I’d go back to the 90’s and bet some serious Benjamins on Johnny Depp being the biggest star in the world. Diary of a Wimpy Kid was second with an estimated $21.8 million over the weekend. The Fox film is probably already in profit. The kid may be wimpy, but the box office is strong.
